from £60.00

Master the wheel at your pace with private 1:1 tutoring—available in-person or online. Whether you’re just starting or want to improve more advanced throwing techniques, personalized lessons focus on your goals: whether you’re making your first bowl or perfecting your moon jars.

Hands-on demonstrations, real-time feedback, plans tailored to your needs, and troubleshooting specific challenges accelerate progress and build confidence. Online sessions use live video to observe your work, guide adjustments, and suggest exercises; in-person lessons give direct tactile guidance and demos.

Ideal for hobbyists, emerging makers, or those preparing a body of work for sale or exhibition. Sessions scheduled to fit your life and paced to match your learning rhythm.

All decorating materials and tools in the studio are open for student use.

A charge of £4/kg of clay fired must be charged to cover firing, materials, and storage costs. For reference, all beginner students start with 200g of clay per piece, and not all pieces are fired. Students choose which pieces to fire. This system makes it feasible and fair for all students to make and fire as much or as little work as they want throughout their time in this studio.

jam session (two people)
from £80.00

A jam session is a fun and creative way to spend time with your favorite person. Whether it’s a date, a friendly activity, or family bonding time, stepping outside of your comfort zone and connecting with clay can help you connect with each other.

Choose between a Making Session or a Decorating Session

Making Session

  • Duration: 2 hours total

  • What you do: Each person gets time at the wheel to throw a piece and a guided hand-building segment.

  • Wheel throwing: Learn basic centering, pulling, and shaping. Each participant will throw one piece on the wheel (we’ll help you refine it).

  • Hand-building options (choose one each): tiny picture frame, keychain/bag charm, small vase, or cup.

  • Instruction: Step-by-step guidance from our potter and assistance with handles or textures if you choose a cup or vase.

  • What you take home: We’ll bisque fire and glaze your wheel-thrown and hand-built pieces after firing. Finished pieces will be ready for pickup (or shipping) in 3–4 weeks.

Decorating Session

  • Duration: 1 hour

  • What you do: Come ready to paint and decorate pre-made bisqueware pieces.

  • Ordering ahead: Pieces must be ordered in advance so they’re ready for your session. Choices: mug, simple vase, small picture frame, utensil holder, bowl, or pet bowl. Choice of pieces will alter the final price. See the dropdown at checkout for details.

  • Decorating: Using slip, learn techniques and pattern ideas to make your pieces pop.

  • What you take home: We’ll glaze fire your decorated pieces. Finished work will be ready for pickup (or shipping) in about 2-3 weeks.

FAQs

  • The studio is in West Oxford, a 10-minute walk from Oxford Station.

Parking is available, but requires a permit, which I can help you to arrange.

  • So that I may best accommodate you, please let me know if you:

    • Cannot climb stairs

    • May have difficulty standing and maintaining steading for 1-2 hours using the pottery wheel

    • are shorter than 5’3” or taller than 5’8”

My studio is located upstairs in a building with no lift.

The wheel is arranged for use in a standing position at the ideal height for people 5’4”-5’9”. Those with heights outside of that range will likely have difficulty using this wheel in the standing position. Please let me know before scheduling your session so the wheel can be adjusted to a sitting position before your session.

  • A maximum of two people can work in the studio at a time.

The studio has one wheel, so in a two-person wheel session, each person will use the wheel and hand-build.

Online sessions and offsite sessions may accommodate more students. Please contact me to discuss.

  • Please bring with you:

    • A hand towel

    • An apron, if you have one (if not, you can borrow one)

    • Wear comfortable shoes (or socks, if you prefer to take your shoes off)

    • Wear short sleeves, or long sleeves that can be rolled up

    • Beverages in containers that can’t be sealed

    • Pets/dogs
